This was the key takeaway from the \u201cStainless Steel: Market and Outlook\u201d conference held during the \u201cMade in Steel\u201d event, featuring insights from Alessandro Bettuzzi, CEO of Oiki Acciai Inossidabili Spa and Coordinator of the Inox Division at Assofermet. <\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Bettuzzi highlighted price dynamics as a central issue, noting short-term stability<\/strong>. \u201c We foresee relatively steady prices over the next three months, despite a clear imbalance between excessive supply and still-muted demand<\/strong>. However, we expect a potential turnaround in the second half of the year<\/strong>, <\/em>,\u201d he explained. A possible rebound in prices may be influenced by upcoming regulatory measures, some of which\u2014like the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM)\u2014are still under evaluation by the European Commission. <\/p>\n

One of the most impactful changes could be the introduction of the \u201cMelted and Poured<\/em>\u201d rule, which establishes a product\u2019s origin based on where the steel is melted, regardless of any subsequent transformations.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\u201cThe most pressing issue,<\/em>\u201d Bettuzzi noted, \u201cconcerns demand evolution. Should certain environmental regulations currently under discussion<\/strong>\u2014especially in the green sector\u2014come fully into force without a coordinated political vision to safeguard the value chain, the industry risks a significant blow, with heavy consequences on final consumption<\/strong>. <\/em>.\u201d This concern is echoed across the sector, especially as the ecological transition threatens to rewrite the rules of the game. <\/p>\n

The conference also shed light on major transformations reshaping the entire value chain: from production, under pressure due to global competition distorted by subsidies and overcapacity, to distribution, which is now increasingly crowded with diverse operators, and downstream processing, particularly in key sectors such as automotive and white goods.<\/p>\n
